AACTE Supports New Educator Preparation Reform Act

AACTE is celebrating Sen. Jack Reed’s (D-R.I.) and Rep. Mike Honda’s (D-Calif.) introduction of “The Educator Preparation Reform Act.” The bill, announced September 20 at a press conference in Washington, D.C., will improve the quality of teaching in high-need schools by reforming and strengthening accountability of educator preparation programs, and supporting partnerships to meet the needs of educators and educational leaders. Among the key provisions in the bill are: strengthening and expanding the Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grants, reforming the TEACH grants, strengthening accountability for programs that prepare teachers, supporting the development and use of a pre-service teacher performance assessment, and streamlining and updating data collection requirements.
